Dragon Touch Y88X Plus 7” Quad Core Google Android 4.4.4 Dual Camera 8 GB Black Review

Budget Android tablets are usually a hit or miss proposition and the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus missed on several levels. Read on for the full review of the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus.

DRAGON TOUCH Y88X PLUS SPECIFICATIONS

  • Quad Core 4 x 1.3 Ghz
  • 8 GB storage, 512MB RAM
  • Dual Camera, 2.0MP rear
  • Wireless N (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth
  • G-sensor

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

  • Tablet
  • AC Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • User Manual

DESIGN

The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus is about as basic as it gets when it comes to design. There’s absolutely nothing thrilling about how this tablet looks or feels. The build quality feels much like a toy rather than a consumer electronic. At the top of the device (landscape) you’ll find the power button, DC in, microphone and microUSB port. On the right side is where the volume rocker and headphone jack make their home. On the back you’ll find the 2.0MP camera, one speaker and the TF card slot. Around the front is the front facing camera. Documentation isn’t clear as to how many megapixels it is. Overall, the design wasn’t very appealing and the feel was cheap.

DISPLAY

The 7” IPS 1024×600 display is actually not bad looking, although the construction feels cheap and fingerprints build quickly. Dragon Touch does include a screen protector pre-installed. For an IPS display the colors were a bit oversaturated and blacks were acceptable. Overall the display works fine other than the cheap feel of the build.

SOFTWARE/ECOSYSTEM

Running on Android 4.4.4 this tablet is very much behind in updates. Kit-Kat still runs decently, but you may run into incompatible apps due to the age of the OS. Not to mention the security patches and other bugs that probably haven’t been fixed. Other Dragon Touch tablets at least run Android 5.1 which is easier to deal with than Android 4.4.4.

PERFORMANCE

Performance was a bit of a disappointment on the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus. With a Quad-Core chip inside and 512 RAM this little tablet is great for basic browsing and some light YouTube watching but it struggled with even light gaming. If you’re playing games not updated since the Android 4.4.4 days then those may run decently here. But newer games are going to struggle and in many cases, be completely unplayable. Scrolling and touch input were okay but there was some stutter and lag apparent. Bottom line is, you’re getting what you’re paying for here so don’t expect Samsung performance.

SPEAKERS/SOUND

The one speaker is tinny and very under powered, headphones are recommended.

CAMERA

Don’t buy this tablet for its cameras. Use your phone and you’ll be much happier.

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life is decent for a small tablet. But since you can’t really run anything intense on this tablet, it should be.

PRICE/VALUE

$39.99 is not a lot of money but you’ll have to really weigh what you want to use this tablet for. A light browsing and YouTube consumption machine is probably its wheelhouse. If you want gaming don’t get it.

WRAP UP

If you’re strapped for cash and want browsing and YouTube then yes. Anything more I’d recommend spending the extra on the Dragon Touch X10 instead.

NAILED IT

Lightweight, small and portable, decent battery life.
NEEDS WORK

Android 4.4.4 runs slow, even light gaming is difficult, power connector can be flaky.
BOTTOM LINE

The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus is probably great for web browsing and YouTube watching but even light gaming is a chore for this little guy.

Dragon Touch X10 10.6” Android 5.1 16 GB Bluetooth Mini HDMI Tablet PC Review

Android tablets are getting less expensive day by day, and the Dragon Touch X10 offers up decent Android performance for not at lot of money. This tablet is closely related to the Dragon Touch i10X Windows tablet in form. While its not rocking the latest Android version, this tablet still has its uses. Read on for the full Dragon Touch X10 review.

DRAGON TOUCH X10 SPECIFICATIONS

  • Google Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 10.6” 1366×768 IPS display, 10 point Touch
  • AllWinner A83T Octa-Core up to 2.0 GHz
  • 16 GB storage, 1GB RAM
  • Camera: Rear 5.0MP w/ AF, Front 2.0MP
  • Bluetooth, Mini HDMI, Wi-Fi, Standard USB, Micro USB
  • Battery: 7200 mAH

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

  • Dragon Touch X10 Tablet
  • AC Adapter
  • USB Connection Cable
  • User Manual

DESIGN

The Dragon Touch X10 is nearly identical to the Dragon iX10 Windows tablet minus the Windows logo. The front IPS display has a pre-installed screen protector, a nice touch, and the 2MP camera resides here as well. Along the top edge (in landscape) are the volume rocker and power switch. The back of the device houses the 5MP camera, as well as two speakers and the Dragon Touch branding.

On the left side of the Dragon Touch X10 you’ll find the microSD slot for expandable storage, microUSB port, mini HDMI port, USB 2.0 port, DC in and headphone jack.  The tablet body is made of a soft touch material that tends to grab dirty fingerprints easily, so wash your hands. Overall the design is simple and adheres to your basic black tablet slab seen in Android and Windows tablets. It’s not a ground breaking design; instead, it doesn’t stray from what we normally see, so it should be comfortable.

DISPLAY

The 1366×768 IPS display is 720p HD so you’re not getting the full 1080p here. Considering its $119 price point, though, 720p is more than fair. The display isn’t oversaturated like you’ll find on AMOLED displays, that’s a matter of taste. I prefer natural colors over intense saturation but AMOLED displays continue to gain its fans. The colors are great on this display, clean and crisp, and consuming media content on this tablet was great. Blacks are deep enough that you don’t get a washed out look. They could be better, but it is a cheaper tablet.

The touch screen was decent. There were some instances where it didn’t catch my input and I had to tap a few times. Scrolling was mostly lag-free but there were occasional hiccups where the browser had to catch up. Some of these issues are probably associated mostly with Android 5.1. If Dragon Touch would update the OS some of this could be resolved.

SOFTWARE/ECOSYSTEM

The Dragon Touch X10 is running Android 5.1 Lollipop so you’re not getting the benefit of the latest Google OS. Still, Android 5.1 is capable and works really well on the X10. The occasional lag and scrolling issues are likely due to lack of software updates, so Android 6.0 would be nice to see on this tablet.

PERFORMANCE

Running an Octa-Core A83T and 1GB of RAM the tablet is still very capable of handling basic tablet duties. Browsing, calendar and office work are all very easy to run, as is media consumption like YouTube and Netflix. Playing games on the Dragon Touch X10 isn’t too bad either, light gaming is very doable and even slightly heavier games like Temple Run are fairly smooth. When you get into heavier gaming like Asphalt 6 you’re going to start getting some lag and dropped frames. I did encounter a curiosity when logging into the tablet for the first time. Google keeps track of the devices your Google account is using. When logging into this tablet, Google recognized it as a Sony Xperia X10. This might indicate Dragon Touch is using Sony parts for the Dragon Touch X10.

Bottom line on performance is, don’t expect to do any heavy gaming here, light gaming, browsing and media consumption is where you stand here.

SPEAKERS/SOUND

These are the same speakers found in the Dragon Touch iX10…tinny, weak, nearly no bass, and you’re better off with headphones.

CAMERA

Just don’t take pictures with a tablet, please don’t do it. But if you find yourself in a pinch and need to use the Dragon Touch X10 for pictures you’ll find a 2.0MP and 5.0MP shooter on it. The cameras are likely the same modules in the iX10 since nearly everything is identical here. The front facing 2.0MP camera is pretty grainy and doesn’t work well in low light at all. If you’re going to use it for Skype it will work well but make sure you have some light in the room. The rear 5.0MP camera is also weak in low light with a lot of grain. It does better in sunlight and well lit areas but seriously, use your phone for pictures.

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life is pretty good, you can get through the day easily with browsing, media consumption and basic internet stuffs. If you fire up gaming on this, especially more intensive games, your battery will suffer.

PRICE/VALUE

Android 5.1 might be a deal breaker for some and honestly, everyone should be on Android 6.0, but since this isn’t you get what you get. For the price, $119.99 on Amazon and currently $99.99 on Tablet Express, it’s not a bad deal.

WRAP UP

This is probably not going to be a primary device but would make a good secondary device and also makes a great light gaming machine for the kids.

NAILED IT

Nice display, snappy performance.
NEEDS WORK

Running Android 5.1 and likely not upgradeable.
BOTTOM LINE

While it is only on Android 5.1, this is a decent tablet for kids to play games and light media consumption. The price won’t break the bank and if the kids break it it wasn’t a huge investment.

Dragon Touch i10X 10.1 inch 64 GB Windows 10 Tablet Intel Quad Core 2-in-1 Notebook IPS Screen with Detachable Keyboard Review

BUY FROM AMAZON

BUY FROM TABLET EXPRESS

We’re very aware that not everyone who reads Techaeris is working within the same budget or needs parameters. This is why we try and bring a variety of reviews on products from all sorts of budget tiers. The Dragon Touch i10X is a cheap yet solid Windows 10 tablet and this is the full review.

DRAGON TOUCH I10X SPECIFICATIONS

  • Screen Size 10.1 inches
  • Max Screen Resolution 1280×800
  • Processor Intel Atom Z3735F 1.33GHz
  • 2 GB RAM SDRAM DDR3 – 64GB SSD
  • Wireless Type 802.11bgn, Bluetooth
  • Average Battery Life (in hours) 6 hours
  • Dual Camera, 2.0MP+5.0MP

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

  • Dragon Touch Tablet
  • AC Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • User Manual

DESIGN

The Dragon Touch i10X design isn’t anything groundbreaking in the least. A simple tablet slab that looks very much like other Windows and Android tablets on the market. The front of the tablet houses the 10.1 inch IPS display with a 1280×800 resolution. There’s also the front facing 2.0MP camera and the Windows logo on the bottom bezel. Moving around the back you’ll find the rear 5.0MP camera and two speakers along the right and left bottom edge of the back.

The top side of the Dragon Touch i10X is where you’ll find the power and volume rocker. The left side of the i10X is where all your ports are. Here we have the microSD slot for expandable storage, microUSB port, mini HDMI port, USB 2.0 port, DC in and headphone jack. The bottom of the Dragon Touch i10X houses a rescessed five pin connector for the included keyboard/case. The included keyboard/case is well made and sturdy. The case provides really good protection for the tablet and folds over to support the tablet when using the keyboard. The keyboard is almost full size. The keys are squeezed in, but it is comfortable to type on.

The tablet and keyboard are both made from plastics and glass, but it doesn’t feel horribly cheap. This isn’t a Surface Pro 3 we’re dealing with here, so don’t expect the same quality at this price point. Overall the design of the Dragon Touch i10X tows the same line as other Windows tablets.

DISPLAY

The Dragon Touch i10X IPS 1280×800 display was actually a pleasant surprise here. I was expecting to be disappointed, but the display is actually very rich and nice to look at. While it’s not 1080p, it is 720p HD, and on this size display it works. Colors are accurate here, no oversaturation  and blacks are acceptable. Watching movies and YouTube videos was nice and everything looked great. The touch response was accurate and scrolling was smooth and lag free. Dragon Touch even includes a screen protector pre-installed which I thought was a nice touch. For the price a 720 HD display is not only justified but it works well here and it looks good.

SOFTWARE/ECOSYSTEM

The Dragon Touch i10X is running Windows 10 Home edition, and it works smoothly here. Windows 10 is one of Microsoft’s best software releases to date and it’s solid on the Dragon Touch i10X.

PERFORMANCE

With an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM don’t expect to be running any heavy programs here. This is your basic browsing, Office and movie watching tablet. This isn’t a business workhorse or creative machine, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The included storage capacity is 64GB, less than that since Windows is taking up space, but you have the microSD slot, and you can expand your storage with that. That being said, the Intel Atom and 2GB of RAM do an excellent job of pulling this machine along just fine, as long as you don’t throw any heavy desktop programs at it and stick to basic computer tasks and entertainment.

SPEAKERS/SOUND

The speakers on the Dragon Touch i10X aren’t horrible but far from perfect. They’re very tinny sounding with very little bass and mids. At this price tier though, I wasn’t expecting iPad Pro sound. That being said, there is a headphone jack, and I recommend you use it.

CAMERA

First, no one should take pictures with a tablet…no one. But since there are cameras on this thing let’s briefly talk about them.

Battery life is decent. I was able to pull almost 8 hours of use out and standby is good too. Dragon Touch advertises 8 hours of video playback which I didn’t test but it might be possible.
